'Bamboo boxing,' a hit in South Cotabato’s Pinyahan Festival

A one-of-a-kind boxing match became one of the highlights in the recent Pinyahan Festival in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

According to a report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the boxing match was not inside a ring. Instead, competitors fought while hanging on a bamboo pole.

The match is not just about giving strong jabs, but also having the stamina to hold on to the pole. Whoever is left at the pole wins the game.

During the festival, the competitors kept on giving jabs to one another even though they were hanging upside down on the pole.

While it may seem challenging, the players are wearing safety gear and a foam is placed underneath the bamboo pole.

The unique boxing match was a certified hit among the festival goers as they endured the rain to watch the game. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
