Search on for fisherman struck by lightning off Puerto Galera
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has launched search and rescue operations for a 27-year-old fisherman who was struck by lightning while out at sea off Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
The PCG substation in Puerto Galera reported receiving a call about the incident at about 9 p.m. Sunday.
Other fishermen said John Loyd Espenilla, a resident of San Teodoro town in Oriental Mindoro, was hit by lightning as he was fishing in the waters of Barangay Sinandigan in Puerto Galera.
Search and rescue operations were initiated by the PCG, in coordination with the Philippine National Police Maritime Group, and other concerned units.
Espenilla was listed at 5 feet 9 inches in height, with a slim body, and last seen wearing a pink and black t-shirt and navy blue lower garments.
