Mirasol brought waist-deep floods in parts of Luzon

Tropical Depression Mirasol has caused up to waist-deep floods in parts of Luzon, while it also brought localized thunderstorms over the Visayas and Mindanao.

According to Dano Tincungco’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, some areas in Pangasinan have become instant lakes because of the floods, just like what happened in Barangays Mauban and Rajal in Balungao on Wednesday.

The Baracbac National High School in Umingan was also not spared from waist-deep water.

The same situation was experienced in Casiguran, Aurora where Mirasol made a landfall. The municipality said that around 100 homes were flooded due to the tropical depression.

In Echague, Isabela, Annafunan Bridge was also flooded after the water from the river overflowed. Meanwhile, a landslide was reported in San Agustin, the report said.

In Pagbilao, Quezon, a portion of Maharlika Highway in Barangay Palsabangon was also flooded.

Visayas

Even though Mirasol crossed Luzon, it enhanced the southwest monsoon which brought rains in parts of the Visayas.

There were four houses damaged in Barangay Bugam sa Leon in Iloilo due to a landslide caused by the ravaging river.

A nearby footbridge in the area also collapsed. But no one was injured or died in the incident, the report said.

More than 20 residents were still evacuated following the incidents, the local disaster risk reduction and management office said.

Meanwhile, a tree fell on three houses in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu last Monday. The residents said that the incident occurred while they were asleep.

According to the Barangay Pusok captain, the rain was non-stop, and the ground and the tree likely gave way due to the wastewater from the houses.

Mindanao

Meanwhile, farmers in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur were regretful after their rice and vegetable farms were submerged in floods.

The roads were inundated in muddy floodwaters causing inconvenience to small vehicles.

In the municipality of Ligawasan in the Special Geographical Area of BARMM, a drone video yesterday showed the extent of the flooding in several barangays.

The crops were not spared by the floodwaters, and neither were the roads and schools. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
