Valencia City under state of calamity due to flooding
Valencia City in Bukidnon has been placed under a state of calamity following a massive flooding that left four people dead.
The Valencia City Council declared the state of calamity afternoon on Friday, September 19, 2025.
According to data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the damage to properties reached more than P63 million.
Up to 83 houses were destroyed and more than 2,000 families were affected.
The local government said the declaration will allow them to use the calamity fund for disaster response efforts, including providing assistance to residents affected.
“Naa man ginatawag nga quick response fund sa balaod man gud sa RA 10121 not less than 5% sa revenue sa usa ka local government that will be allocated for disaster,” Valencia CDRRMO Training Division Head, Jovenone Ellacone, said.
As of 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, four bodies had been retrieved while four others remain missing.
“Kining upat nato nga patay naa’y katung maestro nga si sir Labay ga-edad sya og 53 dayun katung Viña nag-edad sya og 27, naay 13 ug naay 17. So estudyante ning 13 ug 17 mga estudyante ni sila,” Ellacone added.
Most of those who died and went missing were not able to escape the strong current.
In Purok 20, Poblacion, the pickup truck of one of the victims overturned and was swept away by the flood.
Floodwaters entered several houses and even reached above human height.
On Friday, floodwaters already subsided, allowing some evacuees to return home while others remained at the evacuation centers.
Personnel of the First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FIBECO) and Valencia City Water District are also working to restore power and water in affected households. —GMA Regional TV
