Boat capsizes off Guiuan, Eastern Samar amid Opong assault; 7 rescued
Seven passengers of a motorbanca that capsized in the waters between Homonhon Island and mainland Eastern Samar were rescued.
Six of the seven individuals on board the motorbanca were seen floating in the waters of Barangay Sulangan in Guiuan town.
The motorbanca left Homonhon Island at around 7 a.m. on September 25, 2025. However, huge waves knocked the boat over.
The motorboat operator was found past 9 a.m. on September 26, 2025, or over 24 hours since the incident occurred.
The individuals were taken to the Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital for medical treatment where they were visited by officials of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Guiuan.
The seven individuals are already in fine condition, as of Friday evening.
At least 161 families, or 411 residents, from different barangays in Guiuan were taken to the evacuation center prior to the onslaught of Opong.
As of this writing, however, the evacuees have gone home.
"Nakalingkawas sa miaging Bagyong Opong. Karon naa tay mga priority actions nga atong gibuhat sa munisipyo. Diri sa mainland area ang pag-clear sa atong mga roads, pag-check sa damages sa atong houses," said Engr.
