Iloilo Airport ordered to remove initial security screening —DOTr

Iloilo Airport initial security screening

The initial security screening process at the Iloilo Airport may soon be removed to free up more space for passengers.

Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez issued the order after inspecting the Iloilo Airport on Saturday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

Lopez gave the airport management 15 days to submit their plan regarding the new policy.

“Kailangan nang tanggalin ito kasi redundant na ‘yung proseso. ‘Yan din ang bilin ng Pangulo, maglaan ng mas malaking espasyo para sa mga pasahero, para hindi sila magsiksikan sa check-in,” Lopez said.

(The process has to be removed because it is redundant. That is also the order of the President, to provide more space for passengers so they will have an easier time during check-in.)

Passengers however will still have to go through final security check before entering the boarding gates, Lopez said.

He also asked the Iloilo Airport management to finalize plans for expanding the passenger terminal building.

Lopez also said the implementation of the automated check-in with facial ID recognition should be fast-tracked to ease congestion of passengers especially during peak hours.

“Tuloy-tuloy ‘yung commitment natin to modernize our regional airports. Our passengers deserve the best travel experience, at ‘yan ang gagawin natin,” Lopez said.

(Our commitment to modernize our regional airports continues. Our passengers deserve the best travel experience, and that is what we will give them.)

Lopez also directed the Iloilo Airport to improve its runway to service bigger aircraft and boost passenger capacity for international flights. —KG, GMA Integrated News
