Marcos: Restoring power supply in Masbate could take some time
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Wednesday that it could take some time to restore the power supply in Masbate following the onslaught of Typhoon Opong in the province.
'''Yung kuryente baka matagalan pa ng kaunti, we want to be very sure that it's safe bago natin i-on ang kuryente,'' Marcos told reporters during his visit to the province.
(It might take some time to bring back the power supply, we want to be very sure that it's safe before we resume the power supply.)
He also said the government is looking for ways to provide cash to residents since banks are still unable to operate, making it difficult for people to withdraw their own money.
''That's the problem that we have to solve now, paano makapagprovide ng... para makapagwithdraw, hindi naman ito cash assistance eh, para makapagwithdraw 'yung tao ng sarili nilang pera sa bangko,'' Marcos said.
(That's the problem that we have to solve now, how can we provide money so people can withdraw their own money from banks.)
''Mukhang ang solusyon ay talagang magdadala tayo rito ng napakaraming cash, so 'yun ang isusunod namin, 'yun ang pinakakulang na hindi pa namin nagagawa at all,'' he added.
(It seems that the solution is that we will bring lots of cash here, that's the next thing that we will do.)
During his visit, Marcos led the distribution of additional financial assistance, TUPAD payouts, and aid from the government internship program by the Department of Labor and Employment; family food packs, hygiene kits, malongs, 10-meter laminated sacks, and water filtration kits from the Department of Social Welfare and Development; ‘chari-timba’ or pails with various grocery items from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO); and hot meals along with mobile kitchen services from the Philippine Red Cross to the typhoon victims.
Marcos also checked the typhoon-affected families in several classrooms used as evacuation centers at Nursery Elementary School and inspected a school building damaged by Opong.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
