CAAP: No damage to airports in Cebu, nearby provinces after earthquake

No damage was found in the airports of Cebu and nearby provinces after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the region on Tuesday evening, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Wednesday.

In a public briefing, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said there was no structural damage in airports in Bacolod City, Negros Island; Mactan, Cebu; Calbayog, Samar; and Hilongos, Maasin, Ormoc, and Tacloban, Leyte.

PHIVOLCS earlier reported that an earthquake intensity was felt in some parts of Samar and Tacloban City

Operations immediately resumed at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport after it implemented a precautionary evacuation following the earthquake.

Apolonio also said a flight from Manila to Bacolod landed 30 minutes after it was held in a holding pattern as inspections were conducted on the runway.

He added that there have been no flight cancellations in the said airports on Wednesday. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
