NGCP: Power transmission in Visayas normal after Cebu earthquake

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said Thursday power transmission in the Visayas was running normally following the restoration of several power plants and transmission lines in the aftermath of the magnitude-6.9 earthquake that shook northern Cebu.

"Power transmission services in the Visayas grid are all under normal operations," the NGCP said in its advisory.

Last Wednesday, the grid operator hoisted a yellow alert over the Visayas grid from 1 p.m. to 12 midnight as 27 power plants went on forced outage due to the earthquake.

The yellow alert was shortened to until 9 p.m. as more plants were gradually brought back online.

In its latest advisory, the NGCP said that one plant remains on forced outage due to the earthquake, "with 169 megawatts unavailable from the grid."

Moreover, it said the following transmission lines are still out:

  • Daanbantayan-Tabango 230KV Line 1 and Line 2
  • Daanbantayan-Compostela 230KV Line 1

Meanwhile, the grid operator said the Leyte-Luzon 350kV HVDC Line resumed power transfer as of 9:43 a.m., "with power flow coming from Luzon to Visayas."

"NGCP's Compostela and Daanbantayan Substations serving parts of Cebu are now operating in normal configuration as of 6:25 a.m., October 2, 2025," it said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
