Coastal residents in Aurora flee due to 3-meter storm surge warning

Several residents in Aurora, especially those in coastal areas, have evacuated their homes after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of a possible three-meter storm surge due to Tropical Storm Paolo.

According to Sandra Aguinaldo’s report in “24 Oras” on Thursday, an ambulance made the rounds of Dipaculao in Aurora to urge residents living near the coast to evacuate immediately.

They were also reminded to prepare their clothes, food, and medicines to bring with them.

The boats of the fishermen were temporarily positioned along roads to prevent the boats from being swept away by the storm surge.

The report said a storm surge is also possible in the northern portion of Aurora, such as Casiguran.

The state weather bureau said that Tropical Storm Paolo may make landfall over Aurora between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3.

The Aurora Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) held a meeting to discuss preparations in case Signal No. 3 is hoisted when the tropical storm moves over the northern part of Dilasag and Casiguran.

The Aurora PDRRMO also warned that parts of the northern portion of the province are also prone to flooding. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
