More family food packs sent to Cebu for earthquake victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Saturday said its truck carrying 4,000 family food packs has already reached Tabogon, Cebu.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the family food packs will be distributed to residents affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu and was felt in nearby areas and provinces on Sept. 30, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Dobol B TV.

Many residents have yet to return to their homes after evacuating, due to the fear of aftershocks.

The DSWD said Tabogon is one of the areas affected by the earthquake.

Meanwhile, 1,900 family food packs also arrived in Daanbantayan, Cebu for earthquake victims.

Daanbantayan was one of the areas heavily affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

On the other hand, an additional 2,000 family food packs were dispatched for San Remigio town in Cebu, the DSWD said.

The family food packs were dispatched from the Visayas Disaster Resource Center.

Ready-to-eat food boxes on the other hand were handed out to residents of Bogo City by social workers and developmental workers of DSWD Field Office 7 - Central Visayas.

The food boxes were given out in Barangays Taytayan, Nailon, Cayang, Taytayan and Banban, the DSWD said.

The DSWD and the Philippine Red Cross also set up tents that will serve as temporary quarters for service providers who will help manage the Tent City in Barangay Cogon in Bogo City.

In Sogod, Cebu, the DSWD also gave out family food packs to earthquake victims.

At least 68 were reported to have died and 559 were injured due to the earthquake, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday.

A total of 366,360 people or 80,595 families were affected by the earthquake, it added. —KG, GMA Integrated News
