Cebu earthquake aftershocks reach 5,336
Aftershocks from the Cebu earthquake reached 5,336, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Saturday.
In its 2 p.m. update on Saturday, PHIVOLCS said that 22 of these aftershocks were felt and that the strength of the aftershocks ranged from magnitude 1.0 to 5.1.
The number of injured people due to the devastating quake that hit Bogo City, Cebu last Tuesday was 559, according to the data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The NDRRMC reported that the Cebu earthquake death toll was at 68, according to their data released Friday.
PHIVOLCS director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol previously said aftershocks are expected to last for days.
"Sometimes the aftershocks would last for several weeks,” said PHIVOLCS director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol.
“Habang tumatagal naman, bumababa ang number ng aftershocks natin, and humihina din yung magnitude,” he added.
(As time goes on, the number of aftershocks will be decreasing, and their magnitude is also decreasing.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News
