Magnitude 4.8 earthquake recorded offshore Ilocos Norte

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake was recorded in the waters off Currimao, Ilocos Norte on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The earthquake occurred at 9:45 a.m., it said.
The epicenter was located at 18.24°N, 119.88°E - 069 km N 70° W of Currimao.
The quake had a depth of 17 km and was tectonic in origin.
Instruments showed that Intensity I was recorded in San Nicolas and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, and in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
PHIVOLCS said no damage and aftershocks are expected.
The earthquake was first reported by PHIVOLCS as having magnitude 5.0, but downgraded it to magnitude 4.8 in an update. —KG, GMA Integrated News
