12 barangays in Calasiao, Pangasinan still flooded after successive storms

Twelve barangays in Calasiao, Pangasinan are still submerged in floodwaters due to the downpour brought by the succeeding tropical cyclones.

According to Sendee Salvacio’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” Barangay Mancup is one of the flooded barangays.

Some residents were seen wearing waders as they braved through the flood that made a road appear like a river.

A resident said that during heavy rain, floodwater can reach up to neck-level which greatly hampers the locals ability to travel to school or work.

Residents expect that the flood would subside after three or more days, as deep flooding is normal in their area.

“'Yung pinakamataas, three to four feet po. Meron po kasi tayong monitored na abot hanggang baywang yung tubig baha. Pinakamababang area doon sa barangay,” said Kristine Joy Soriano, Calasio Disaster Risk Reduction Management head officer.

(The highest is around three to four feet. We have monitored floodwaters reaching waist-deep in the lowest-lying area in the barangay.)

In Dagupan City, heavy traffic was observed due to the flooded roads.

Motorists were redirected to alternative roads to keep the traffic moving.

Starting Tuesday, October 7, more traffic enforcers will be deployed to the area.

According to the Dagupan Public Alert and Response Monitoring Center, the flooding was caused by high tide in the Lingayen Gulf that has reached spilling level.

It added that about a one-meter tide level is expected in Dagupan City this week.

However, if fair weather continues, the floodwaters will subside. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
