Residents seek safety amid Davao Oriental earthquake; structures hit

The impact of the magnitude-7.4 earthquake in Manay, Davao Oriental damaged structures and shook communities in Davao areas, sending residents to seek safety as seen in several videos on Friday morning.

In a video clip posted by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Facebook, some parts of a house in Baganga, Davao Oriental collapsed after the earthquake. Rubble was seen scattered all over the floor. 

Debris from the ceiling fell on the students inside a classroom at Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao in Davao City. 

In Davao City, merchandise items were seen falling from shelves as the ground shook at a shopping mall.

Oxygen tanks and different appliances were also seen shaking inside a house in Lupon, Davao Oriental.

An ongoing earthquake drill turned into an actual safety operation as the ground shook, taking participants by surprise at the Talusa Child Development Center in Talomo Proper, Davao City.

An inter-agency maritime exercise in Davao City was also temporarily stopped.

Passengers at the Davao International Airport were also seen being evacuated during the earthquake. Passengers and workers hid under tables and covered their heads.

Motorists stopped in the middle of the road in Lasang, Davao City while their vehicles were shaking during the earthquake.
