Tsunami waves recorded in Tandag, Surigao del Sur after Davao earthquake
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said tsunami waves have been recorded in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday morning.
In a press conference, PHIVOLCS chief Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said the 30-centimeter-high tsunami waves, observed around 10:20 a.m., were “not considered as destructive."
“Tsunami waves have been recorded along the eastern coastline of Tandag City with a height of approximately 30 centimeters at around 10: 20 a.m.,” Bacolcol said.
“So, 30 centimeters, that is not considered as destructive,” he added.
A tsunami warning was raised over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Davao Oriental, Southern Leyte, Surigao Del Norte, Leyte, and Surigao Del Sur following the earthquake.
At 1:43 p.m., the tsunami warning was cancelled.
“Any effects due to the tsunami warning have largely passed and therefore DOST-PHIVOLCS has now cancelled all Tsunami Warnings issued for this event. This will be the final tsunami information issued for this event,” PHIVOLCS said in a tsunami information.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
