NGCP: Lines affected by Davao Oriental earthquake restored

LIVE UPDATES: Davao Oriental earthquake (Oct. 10, 2025)

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Friday said its transmission lines, which were earlier rendered unavailable following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that rocked Manay, Davao Oriental, were now restored.

In its situation report, the NGCP said the following lines were re-energized:

  • Davao-Toril 69kV line - restored at 10:29 a.m.
  • Nabunturan-Asuncion 69kV line - restored at 11:32 a.m.
  • Bunawan-Maco 138kV line - restored at 10:25 a.m.

Meanwhile, the remaining unenergized Nabunturan-Masara (Apex) 138kV line is a customer-owned and maintained line and does not serve any distribution utility.

Moreover, the grid operator said that all plants affected by the earthquake have been restored as of 11:30 a.m., October 10, 2025.

Due to the initial tripping of the power plants, the grid operator said the total generation loss was around 373.5 megawatts (MW).

In particular, Malita Coal Plant Unit 2 with 149.1 megawatts (MW) capacity auto-tripped at 9:45 a.m. and went back online at 11:29 a.m.; Agus 1 Hydro Electric Power plants Unit 1 (29.4MW) and Unit 2 (29.3MW) which auto-tripped 9:45 a.m. were restored at 10:01 a.m. and 10:27 a.m., respectively; Pulangi 4 Hydro Plants Unit 1 (63.3MW), Unit 2 (39.2MW), and Unit 3 (63.2MW) auto-tripped at 9:45 a.m. and went back online at 10:22 a.m., 10:35 a.m., and at 11:30 a.m., respectively.

“Power transmission services in Mindanao are under normal operations,” the NGCP said.

“NGCP will continue monitoring the effects of the earthquake on its transmission facilities and will provide updates when necessary,” it added. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
