Davao Oriental earthquake aftershocks reach 266 —PHIVOLCS

More than 200 aftershocks have been recorded as of Friday afternoon following the magnitude 7.4 offshore earthquake in Manay, Davao Oriental earlier in the day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
As of 3:00 p.m., PHIVOLCS said the number of aftershocks reached 266 and only 11 of which were felt. The strength of the aftershocks ranged from magnitude 1.3 to 5.8.
Bacolcol earlier advised earthquake-hit residents to consult first with experts before returning to their homes as aftershocks can still damage buildings.
“If there are visible damages sa mga istruktura kung saan sila nakatira, huwag muna silang pumasok,” he said.
(If there are visible damage to the structures where they live, they should not go inside.)
“They have to consult their municipal or city engineers kasi kung hindi man ito totally na-damage during the main shock, baka ma-damage ito totally during a strong aftershock,” he added.

The magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit Manay, Davao Oriental at 9:43 a.m.
One person was reported dead in the earthquake, according to Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
