Almost 107k people affected by magnitude 7.4 earthquake off Davao Oriental - DSWD

Nearly 107,000 individuals have been affected by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck off the shore of Manay, Davao Oriental, on Friday morning, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said.

As of 6 p.m. Friday, the DSWD said the affected population stood at 106,794, representing 22,641 families in Davao Region and Caraga. There are 12 evacuation centers that serve 2,432 families or 11,488 individuals.

One house was completely damaged, and 28 houses were partially damaged, the DSWD said. 

The DSWD has provided P908,385.52 in humanitarian aid so far, and P2.873 billion in relief resources are available.

The powerful earthquake was caused by the movement in the Philippine Trench, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
