Over 800 aftershocks recorded after Davao Oriental earthquakes —PHIVOLCS
The number of aftershocks from the magnitude 7.4 and magnitude 6.8 earthquakes that struck offshore Davao Oriental on Friday reached more than 800 as of Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
At 8 a.m., PHIVOLCS recorded 808 aftershocks since Friday.
Of this number, 331 were plotted and 13 were felt with magnitude ranging from 1.2 to 5.8, PHIVOLCS said.
This further rose to 831 aftershocks as of 11 a.m., according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

PHIVOLCS will conduct an evacuation assessment in Davao Oriental on Saturday, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB.

At 9:43 a.m. on Friday, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit offshore Manay, Davao Oriental. Its epicenter was located at around 43 kilometers east of Manay.
Intensity V was felt in Compostela, Maco, Mawab, Monkayo, Montevista, Nabunturan, and Pantukan, Davao De Oro; Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali, Carmen, New Corella, City of Panabo, Island Garden City of Samal, Santo Tomas, and City of Tagum, Davao Del Norte; City of Davao; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Cateel, and City Of Mati, Davao Oriental; City of Kidapawan, Cotabato; Alabel, Glan, and Malungon, Sarangani; City of Koronadal, Tampakan, and Tupi, South Cotabato; City of General Santos; City of Butuan; Claver, Gigaquit, and Mainit, Surigao Del Norte.
On Friday evening, at 7:12 p.m., another earthquake with magnitude 6.8 struck off the shore of Manay, Davao Oriental, PHIVOLCS said.
Intensity VI was felt in Manay, Davao Oriental in this second earthquake.
PHIVOLCS said the second earthquake was not an aftershock but the latter half of a doublet.
PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol said a “doublet” refers to two closely-timed earthquakes happening nearby.
“A doublet earthquake means two closely timed quakes happening nearby. They happen in the same area but have different epicenters and strengths,” Bacolcol told GMA News Online. —KG, GMA Integrated News
