NDRRMC: 7 reported dead due to Davao Oriental earthquakes
Seven people were reported to have died after the doublet Davao Oriental earthquakes on Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.
All these fatalities were reported in Region 11 and are still for validation, the NDRRMC said in its situational report.
According to the Davao Oriental Provincial Government, two died in the City of Mati, while one died in the municipality of Tarragona.
Meanwhile, 11 were reported injured in Region 11 which will be validated as well, the NDRRMC said.
No one was reported missing, according to the NDRRMC.
A total of 1,265 individuals or 331 families were preemptively evacuated in Region 11, the NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, 8,436 individuals or 3,519 families were affected in two regions, two provinces, four cities and municipalities and nine barangays, it added. Of the total, 7,915 persons or 2,468 families were served inside evacuation centers.
So far 33 houses were reported damaged — five of them totally — in Region 11 and CARAGA, according to the NDRRMC.
Seven road sections and three bridge sections were also reported affected, according to NDRRMC's tally. As of Saturday morning, five roads and one bridge remained not passable.
A total of seven seaports affected, with 47 passengers reported stranded.
Five cities and municipalities had power outage, but four of these had their power supply restored already.
Meanwhile, 12 cities and municipalities had their communication lines affected, but these have been 100% restored by Saturday.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez reiterated Malacañang’s commitment to “work round the clock” to aid victims of the Davao Oriental quakes.
“The President's paramount concern is the safety and well-being of our people in the earthquake struck areas… On the instructions of the President, all concerned frontline agencies were tasked to work round the clock to provide rescue and relief operations,” Gomez said.
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocked Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
On Friday evening, at 7:12 p.m., another earthquake with magnitude 6.8 struck off the shore of Manay, Davao Oriental, PHIVOLCS said.
PHIVOLCS said the second earthquake was not an aftershock but the latter half of a doublet — two closely-timed earthquakes happening nearby.
Almost 800 aftershocks were recorded as of 7 a.m. Saturday, PHIVOLCS said.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Manay in Davao Oriental has declared a state of calamity following the two earthquakes that hit off the town on Friday.
Several areas in the Davao Region provinces suspended classes and work on Saturday, October 11, 2025, following the earthquakes.
