Cebu earthquake affected 201,245 families —NDRRMC

The magnitude 6.9 Bogo City, Cebu earthquake that occurred on September 30 affected 201,245 families or 722,919 individuals, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday. 

The affected population were in 17 cities and municipalities and 256 barangays, it added in its 6 a.m. situational report.

A total of 8,818 persons were reported displaced, with some of them staying in 11 evacuation centers.

The reported deaths remained at 74, and these are for validation, the NDRRMC said.

Meanwhile, the injuries remained at 559, and none were reported missing.

The NDRRMC said two landslides occurred in Region 7.

Fifty-three cities and municipalities were placed under a state of calamity.

Houses, roads, infra

A total of 79,959 houses were reported damaged, with 74,616 showing partial damage and 5,343 totally damaged.

Seven hundred seventy-three infrastructure were damaged, estimated to cost P6,765,661.

Eight road sections and 20 bridge sections were affected, with four road sections and 10 bridge sections still not passable as of Saturday.

Three seaports were also affected, with two of them still non-operational.

Power, water, communication

Meanwhile, 91 cities and municipalities were affected by power outage. Of these, 43 areas already had their power supply restored.

Eight cities and municipalities had their water supply affected, but seven areas already had theirs restored.

Communication lines in 17 cities and municipalities were also reported affected, but these were already restored in seven areas.

Assistance

The NDRRMC said an estimated P204,188,533.65 worth of assistance were extended to affected families.

Aftershocks

Meanwhile, over 10,000 aftershocks have already been reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). 

"May mga aftershocks pa rin tayo sa (We still have aftershocks from the) Bogo earthquake," PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday.

As of 6 a.m., the aftershocks have reached 10,662, he said.

 

The number of aftershocks rose to 10,671 as of 8 a.m., according to PHIVOLCS said in an update. Of these, 1,863 were plotted and 45 were felt.

These aftershocks had magnitude ranging from 1.0 to 5.1.

Bacolcol said the number of aftershocks get fewer as the days go on.
