Magnitude-5.0 earthquake jolts Cabangan, Zambales

A magnitude-5.0 earthquake shook Cabangan, Zambales on Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

In a bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the earthquake's epicenter was located within the Luzon mainland at Cabangan, Zambales. It was recorded at 5:32 p.m.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 100 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of damage from the earthquake, PHIVOLCS said, but aftershocks may follow.

Instrumental intensities of Intensity III was felt in Cabangan and Iba in Zambales, while Instumental Instensity of Intensity II was reported in some parts of Bulacan, La Union, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Zambales.

The Zambales earthquake comes a day after the doublet earthquakes of magnitude-7.4 and 6.8 off Manay in Davao Oriental, and 11 days after a magnitude-6.9 earthquake hit Bogo City in Cebu.

The Cebu earthquake has so far affected 201,245 families and damaged a total of 79,959 houses, while the more powerful Davao Oriental earthquake affected 3,519 families with 33 houses reported damaged so far.

On September 30, a magnitude-6.9 earthquake struck Bogo City in Cebu, with over 10,000 aftershocks recorded since.
