Davao Oriental earthquake aftershocks reached over 1,000 —PHIVOLCS
The number of aftershocks that followed the magnitude 7.4 and magnitude 6.8 doublet earthquakes in Davao Oriental last Friday have reached more than 1,000, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Sunday.
As of 12 noon of October 12, a total of 1,111 aftershocks were recorded by PHIVOLCS.
Of this number, 511 were plotted while 14 were felt.
The aftershocks had magnitude ranging from 1.2 to 5.8, PHIVOLCS said.
The magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck offshore Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday morning, while the magnitude 6.8 offshore earthquake was recorded that evening.
Both earthquakes had their epicenters in the waters of the town of Manay.
PHIVOLCS earlier said the second earthquake in Davao Oriental was not an aftershock but the latter half of a doublet — two closely-timed earthquakes happening nearby. —KG, GMA Integrated News
