Cebu earthquake death toll now 75 —OCD
The Office of Civil Defense on Monday said the reported death toll in the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu last September 30 has increased to 75.
“Sa Cebu po ay nananatiling 75 ‘yung casualty doon. Meron pa rin tayong close to 600 injuries,” OCD deputy administrator Assistant Secretary Bernardo Alejandro IV told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview.

He added that the agency will check if there are more reported casualties from the magnitude 6.0 aftershock earlier at 1:06 a.m.
“But titignan natin ngayon. Ngayong umaga po, pumapasok ang mga reports. Sana wala pong casualty dito sa aftershock na ito,” he added.
(But we will check now. Reports are coming in this morning. Hopefully there will be no casualties from this aftershock.)
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the strong aftershock left 14 more people injured.
Hagnaya Port was also damaged. A house in Santa Fe was damaged and toppled down by a water tank.
A water supply problem was reported in Daanbantayan following the aftershock. Pipelines were damaged in some affected areas.
“There are reported new damage to infrastructures, however assessments are still on going and no exact figures have been reported,” the PDRRMO said.
According to Alejandro, the aftershocks from the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Bogo City have reached almost 11,000.
A total of 722,919 people or 201,245 families in Centrql Visayas were affected by the earthquake, according to a report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of Saturday.
Of the total affected population, 3,538 people or 815 families were staying in evacuation centers while 5,280 people or 1,106 families were taking shelter in other places.
A total of 79,959 houses were damaged—74,616 partially and 5,343 totally. Also, 773 infrastructures worth P6,765,661 were damaged.
The entire province of Cebu is under a state of calamity.
Assistance worth P204,188,533 have been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC. —AOL/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
