Taal Volcano had minor phreatic eruption —PHIVOLCS
A minor phreatic eruption occurred in Taal Volcano on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
In a Facebook post, PHIVOLCS shared a time-lapse footage of the minor phreatic eruption.
“Time-lapse footage of minor phreatic eruption at the summit crater of Taal Volcano that occurred at 11:42 AM, today (13 October 2025),” PHIVOLCS said.
“This event generated plumes that rose 900 meters above the crater as recorded by the Main Crater IP Camera,” it added.
Phreatic eruption is a steam-driven explosion that occurs when water beneath the ground or on the surface is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits.
Alert Level 1 prevails over Taal Volcano, according to PHIVOLCS.
This means the volcano is in abnormal condition and should not be interpreted to have ceased unrest nor ceased the threat of eruptive activity.
Under Alert Level 1, the possible hazards are sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.
PHIVOLCS prohibits the entry to the Taal Volcano Island, permanent danger zone or PDZ, especially the vicinity of the Main Crater and the Daang Kastila fissure. Flying close to the volcano is also prohibited. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
