Davao Oriental earthquake death toll increased to 9 —OCD


The Office of Civil Defense said the reported fatalities in the magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 doublet earthquakes in Davao Oriental

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Tuesday said the reported fatalities in the magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 doublet earthquakes in offshore Manay, Davao Oriental last October 10 increased to nine.

“Kaninang umaga po, nadagdagan ito ng isa na reported death. So as of noon time, ang ating for verification and for validation natin ay this is nine na po,” OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo said in a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview.

(This morning, one reported death was added. So as of noon, our number for verification and validation is already nine.) 

Castillo said 403 people were reported injured in the earthquake. 

A total of 889,000 people were affected by the impact of the earthquake. Of which, 12,768 people or 3,176 families were staying in evacuation centers.

Castillo said 2,575 houses were damaged—2,231 partially and 344 totally. Aside from this, damage to infrastructure worth P100 million was reported.

A total of 1,303 aftershocks have been recorded following the October 10 earthquake as of 12 noon on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said. Of which, 18 were felt. 

The strength of the aftershocks ranged from magnitude 1.2 to 5.8. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
