4-year-old boy among 3 killed in Calamba City shootout


A four-year-old boy was among three people killed in a shootout during the serving of an arrest warrant in Barangay San Cristobal, Calamba City, Laguna last October 15, police said Monday.

In a press briefing, Calamba Component City Police Station officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant Colonel Dennis de Guzman said three armed men traded gunshots with the arresting team of four cops.

“During the service of the warrant of arrest, initially successful, nakuha po natin siya,” De Guzman said.

“Noong binabasahan na siya ng Miranda Rights, bigla pong in-ambush yung apat nating operatiba ng tatlong malefactors armed with multiple firearms, one of which is a magazine-fed shotgun, isang caliber .38 at saka isang caliber .45,” he added.

(When reciting Miranda Rights, our four operatives were suddenly ambushed by three malefactors armed with multiple firearms, one of which was a magazine fed shotgun, a .38 caliber .38 and a .45 caliber handguns.)

The fatalities were identified as two bystanders aged four and 57, as well as one of the suspects. 

Two police officers were also wounded in the encounter. 

The subject of the arrest warrant and one of the suspects who fired at the police were arrested. 

One suspect remains at large.

On October 17, charges were filed against the three suspects for resisting arrest, disobedience to a lawful order, two counts of murder, two counts of frustrated murder and for the violation of illegal possession of firearms. —RF, GMA Integrated News
