Brief explosive eruption recorded at Kanlaon Volcano - PHIVOLCS
Kanlaon Volcano experienced a brief explosive eruption on Friday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
PHIVOLCS said the eruption lasted from 8:05 p.m. to 8:08 p.m.
State seismologists said the eruption generated a plume that rose 2,000 meters above the crater before drifting northeast.
Also recorded by the IP Camera in Lower Masulog, Canlaon City observation station were the pyroclastic density currents descending the southern slopes within one kilometer of summer crater, said PHIVOLCS.
Alert Level 2 remains over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is increased unrest.
Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.
Further, PHIVOLCS advised nearby residents to close their windows and doors during an ashfall event. It recommended placing a damp towel or cloth in window or door openings.
After an ashfall, PHIVOLCs also advised washing windows and doors with water. Collected ashes must be disposed far from any water drainage. It also advised to boil water before drinking following an ashfall event.
