Motorist dies after truck hits car in Gerona, Tarlac
A driver died, while his one-year-old daughter is in critical condition, after their vehicle was hit by a truck along a highway in Gerona, Tarlac, on Friday morning.
According to Ivan Mayrina’s report on “24 Oras," the truck driver lost control due to a mechanical problem, which caused him to crash into the car.
“‘Yung truck biglang nag-swerve nang konti doon sa left side, so approaching po ‘yung ating kotse doon, Sir, so doon nagkabanggaan. Nawalan daw po siya ng kontrol doon sa makina,” said Gerona Police acting chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Edilberto Santiago.
(The truck suddenly swerved a bit to the left side, and the car was approaching there, Sir, so that's where the collision happened. He allegedly lost control of the vehicle.)
The driver of the crashed vehicle was dead on arrival in the hospital. His child is confined in the intensive care unit, while his wife is safe.
The lawyer of the truck owner is already coordinating with the victims, the report said.
In a video that went viral online, a tricycle and other vehicles were also damaged following the road mishap.
“Itong highway talaga ng Gerona ay accident prone talaga ‘yung area diyan. Ang [tendency] talaga, matutulin kumpara sa mga ibang lugar,” said Santiago.
(This highway in Gerona is an accident-prone area. The tendency is that the vehicles here are really fast compared to other places.)
