WATCH: Kanlaon Volcano emits ash following Friday night eruption
Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted ash from its summit crater three times on Saturday morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), time-lapse footage of the volcano showed three ash emission events occurring at 7:04 a.m., 8:26 a.m., and 9:23 a.m.
“These events generated grayish plumes that rose up to 300 meters above the crater before drifting northwest as recorded by the IP Camera in Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City (KVO-CC),” read the advisory.
Alert Level 2 remains up over the volcano following a brief explosive eruption on Friday night.
PHIVOLCS said the eruption lasted from 8:05 p.m. to 8:08 p.m. on Oct. 24 and caused ashfall and pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) to flow down its slopes.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) advised pilots to avoid flying over the volcano amid continued volcanic activity.
Meanwhile the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepared the necessary aid for residents affected by the sudden eruption. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/KG, GMA Integrated News
