Suspect in slay of CIDG 7 official surrenders in Pasig City

The prime suspect in the slay of an official of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 surrendered to Pasig City Police in Metro Manila.

The shooting to death of Police Captain Joel Deiparine took place in Barangay Sudlon 2 (Dos), upland Cebu City on October 25, 2025 while he was reportedly conducting surveillance.

Leonardo Manto, Jr. is taken into the custody of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), after he was fetched by the chief of city police as soon as he turned himself in to the Pasig City Police.

Manto appeared at the Pasig City Police Station.

Deiparine sustained several gunshot wounds, while his companion sustained minor injury while fleeing.

The bounty put up for the capture of Manto was raised to P500,000 from an initial P200,000.

As of this writing, the CCPO and the Police Regional Office 7 have not issued statements yet, while still undergoing the process of filing appropriate charges against the suspect.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s wife appeared at the CCPO to be able to see and talk to her husband.

Alias “Bing,” in an interview with GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, said she could not believe her husband could perpetrate the crime.

She said she was not around when the incident happened. She would like to seek details straight from her own husband.

Alias “Bing” pointed out that while she is happy of her husband's surrender, she could not help from getting anxious about his situation.

Further, the wives of the other men implicated in the incident also showed up at CCPO and also appealed that their husbands be accorded fair investigation. — Aland Domingo, GMA Regional TV
