Man nabbed in Biñan, Laguna for possession of unregistered firearms

A man was arrested during a raid in Biñan, Laguna for possession of unregistered firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

According to a "24 Oras" report by John Consulta on Friday, the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP – CIDG) in Laguna had implemented a search warrant on a home in Biñan, where they discovered a bag containing 16 firearms.

“Sa record check na ginawa namin, mayroon siyang 9 registered firearms licensed, but yung 4 doon unrenewed since 2024. We conducted casing doon sa area, and then that’s the time na inapplyan na namin siya ng search warrant. Tumambad satin doon ang iba’t ibang uri ng baril. Ang iba, high-powered firearms and we even recovered 2 explosives, mga granada po,” said CIDG Laguna chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Soriano.

(Based on the record check that we did, he had 9 registered and licensed firearms, but 4 of those were unrenewed since 2024. We conducted casing in the area, and then that’s the time we applied a search warrant. We saw different types of guns. Some of them were high-powered firearms and we even recovered 2 explosives and these are grenades.)

Among the firearms and explosives seized during the raid were the following:

·      Sniper rifle with a scope and silencer

·      AK-47 rifle with magazines

·      M-16 rifle

·      Double-barrel shotgun

·      Several 9mm pistols

·      Pocket pistol

·      Disassembled caliber 45 pistol

·      Caliber 38 pistol with scope

·      Assorted ammunition

·      2 grenades

The suspect told the authorities that he was in possession of these firearms since his sibling had died and they had been entrusted to him.

“Bukod sa mahilig sa baril tong subject natin talaga, accordingly, yung kapatid niya na namatay several years ago, siya yung napag-iwanan ng mga baril niya… Hindi niya ginawan ng tamang proseso ang mga baril na ‘yun,” Soriano said.

(Aside from the fact that the subject really likes guns, accordingly, he was the one left with the guns owned by his sibling who died several years ago… He didn’t undergo the correct processes for these guns.)

The suspect is now detained at the CIDG facility in Cabuyao, Laguna and will face charges of possession of unregistered firearms and explosives. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
