The Iloilo provicial government has started preemptive evacuation in the province's high-risk areas, coastal and riverside communities, due to the effects of Typhoon Tino.

According to Sevein Hope Gegantoca’s report on Super Radyo dzBB on Monday, these areas include communities on the banks of the Jaro River, Dungon Creek, Buntatala Creek, Mansaya Creek, and Calajunan Creek.

Residents in areas 150 meters from the regular high-water level must also be evacuated for safety measures amid the storm.

In Oton, Iloilo, fisherfolk were barred from fishing due to the threat of Tino, according to  Zen Quilantang-Sasa's report on dzBB.

They also placed their boats on higher ground to protect them from the potential impacts of waves and strong winds brought by the storm.

Some residents are also securing their appliances to prevent damage.

Meanwhile, classes and government work are suspended in Aklan Province until Tuesday to allow families to prepare for the storm.

The Philippine Coast Guard also canceled sea travel in the province.

In Altavas Town, some barangays have already experienced flooding.

Some residents also secured their houses by tying them down and placing weights on the roofs to prevent them from being blown away by the weather disturbance.

Classes are also suspended today in El Nido and Linapacan, Palawan, according to Wilmar Abrea’s dzBB report.

Meanwhile, concerned government agencies are pre-positioning family food packs in areas of Palawan expected to be hit by the storm.

All LGU Emergency Operations Centers and the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office are on alert for the effects of Tino.

Based on PAGASA’s 5 p.m. weather bulletin, Signal No. 4 is hoisted in 8 areas as Typhoon Tino slightly intensifies while drawing near Eastern Visayas in the Caraga area.

Tino was located 170 km east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, and is carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 160 km/h, and is moving westward at 20 km/h. –NB, GMA Integrated News
