Woman dies after boat capsizes in Maguindanao del Sur amid rough weather from Tino
A woman died in Maguindanao del Sur after the boat that she and her children were riding capsized due to large waves amid rough weather from Typhoon Tino.
According to James Paolo Yap’s report on “Saksi” on Monday night, the boat capsized after it was slammed by huge waves.
Nearby fishermen and rescuers worked together to save the woman’s four children.
The children were brought to a hospital for medical treatment.
However, the woman was already lifeless when rescuers found her.
Since Sunday, residents have been evacuating their homes in Surigao City amid strong winds and rains from the oncoming typhoon.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, a forced evacuation has been enforced in hazard areas due to the expected storm surge.
The Surigao City Information Office said at least 2,800 families have been evacuated to safety and were given aid.
Meanwhile, swimming and sea travel are also prohibited in Cagayan de Oro City due to the inclement weather.
Those with emergencies may call the 911 hotline for assistance.
A liquor ban was also imposed in Ibajay, Aklan, as part of their preparation for the typhoon.
Sea travel from Caticlan to Boracay was barred due to the rough coastal conditions from Tino.
