Tino death toll climbs to 26 — OCD

The reported death toll from the onslaught of Typhoon Tino has reached 26 as of Tuesday night, the Office of Civil Defense said.

In an online briefing, OCD deputy administrator Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said 22 of the casualties were recorded in Cebu, adding that Cebu was badly hit by Tino.

One of the fatalities was recorded in Western Visayas, while two were recorded in Negros Island Region (NIR), and one was reported in Eastern Visayas.

There were 10 missing individuals reported after Tino hit the Visayas and Mindanao. Of this figure, seven were logged in Central Visayas, one in Eastern Visayas, and two in the NIR.

Alejandro said the reported casualties and missing persons are still being validated.

Meanwhile, over 102,000 families or about 340,000 individuals were affected by Typhoon Tino.

The affected families mostly came from the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, NIR, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

Alejandro said the OCD and other concerned government agencies are making preparations for the MIMAROPA region as Tino is expected to make landfall in Cuyo Islands in Palawan on Tuesday night.

Tino was last monitored over the coastal waters of Magsaysay, Palawan, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 180 km/h. It is moving westward at 25 km/h. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
