Cebu courts suspend work on Nov. 7 due to Tino

Several courts in Cebu suspended work on November 7, Friday as the province reeled from the effects of Typhoon Tino, according to the Supreme Court.

In a post on X, the SC said that all courts in Danao City and the municipalities of Catmon and Poro suspended work.

“As of this date, the city and municipalities under the administrative supervision of the undersigned continue to experience power and water supply interruptions and lack of mobile and internet connectivity,” the Cebu Office of the Executive Judge said.

It also stressed that the local government has already declared a state of calamity due to the severe damage and displacement caused by Tino.

“This extended suspension is necessary to allow for clearing operations, clean up, and restoration of essential utilities and to prioritize the safety and recovery of all personnel and their families,” it said.

“Employees are advised to stay in safe locations, continue to observe precautionary measures, and coordinate with their immediate supervisors once communication lines are restored,” it added.

The reported death toll due to Tino has climbed to 188.

Meanwhile, local governments are now preparing for the potential impact of Super Typhoon Uwan.

In a separate post, the SC said that all first and second-level courts in Catanduanes also suspended work in preparation for Uwan.

“The courts shall have sufficient staff members to act on urgent requests for bail, orders of release, writs of habeas corpus, and similar urgent reliefs,” the SC said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
