Over 1,000 evacuated in Cagayan Valley ahead of Uwan's possible Aurora landfall

More than 1,000 people were preemptively evacuated in Cagayan Valley as Super Typhoon Uwan is expected to make landfall over Aurora, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 2 said on Sunday.

“We have 359 families consisting of 1,147 individuals coming from the 27 barangays ang preemptively evacuated na po,” OCD 2 spokesperson Alvin Ayson said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.

“Inaasahan pa rin namin ang pagdating pa ng ibang mga datos mula sa ibang mga LGUs sapagkat kami pa rin ay nakaka-receive po ng kanilang report. So inaasahan po namin na merong increase in the number of pre-emptive evacuation data po natin,” he added.

(We are still expecting more data from other LGUs because we are still receiving their reports. So we expect there will be an increase in the number of pre-emptive evacuation data.)

The evacuated residents were from the towns of Divilacan, Palanan, Maconacon, Echague, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, and San Mateo in isabela; Alcala, Baggao, Lal-lo, and Peñablanca in Cagayan; and Aglipay municipality in Quirino.

Cloudy to intermittent light rains were observed in the region. Strong winds were also felt in parts of Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Quirino and Cagayan, according to Ayso.

In a 5 a.m. bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said Uwan may make landfall over Aurora Sunday evening or early Monday morning. — RF, GMA Integrated News
