OCD: Power outages hit Bicol, Eastern Visayas amid Uwan
Power interruptions were reported in some areas of the Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions amid the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Sunday.
OCD deputy administrator for administration Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said the affected areas were in Leyte, Northern Samar, and Catanduanes, among others.
“For Region 8, wala pong power sa Tacloban City, Palo, Bato, Babatngon sa Leyte since alas kwatro ng umaga. And some parts of northern samar ay wala pong power,” Alejandro said in a video message.
(For Region 8, there is no power supply in Tacloban City, Palo, Bato, Babatngon in Leyte since four in the morning. And there is also no electricity in some parts of Northern Samar.)
“Gayundin sa Region 5, specifically sa Catanduanes area, ay nakaka-experience na po sila ng malakas na hangin at moderate to strong or heavy rains. So nagkakaroon na rin po ng power outages sa iba't ibang lugar sa Bicol Region,” he added.
(Also in Region 5, specifically in the Catanduanes area, they are already experiencing strong winds and moderate to strong or heavy rains. So there are also power outages in various places in the Bicol Region.)
In Albay, around 50,000 families have been evacuated. On Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) warned residents around Mayon Volcano to stay alert for possible lahar flows due to rains brought by Uwan.
In Camarines Norte, around 5,000 people have been evacuated as part of precautionary measures.
“Kami nananawagan ulit sa ating mga local government units at ating mga kababayan na talagang maghanda at sumunod na po sa mga babala at i-implement na ang ating pre-emptive measures,” Alejandro said.
(We are once again calling on our local government units and our countrymen to really prepare and follow the warnings and implement our preemptive measures.)
“Especially dito na palapit na siya sa Central Luzon, or Southern Luzon, and sa Northern Luzon. So again, we are asking everyone to cooperate,” he added.
