Over 6,600 people stranded at seaports amid Super Typhoon Uwan —PCG
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said over 6,600 people have been stranded in different seaports across the country due to the effects of Super Typhoon Uwan as of Sunday morning.
In an advisory, the PCG said these stranded individuals have been recorded from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m.
“The PCG monitored 86 ports/areas affected with 6,607 passengers/truck drivers/cargo helpers, 3,161 rolling cargoes, 83 vessels and 22 motorbancas were stranded, while 408 vessels and 304 motorbancas taking shelter due to Super Typhoon Uwan,” the PCG said.
According to the Coast Guard, the area with the most number of stranded individuals is Bicol with 2,575, followed by Eastern Visayas with 937 and Southern Tagalog with 843.
Other stranded people were reported in the following areas:
- Western Visayas - 739
- Central Visayas - 662
- Northern Mindanao - 549
- Southern Visayas - 210
- Central Luzon - 76
- Northeastern Mindanao - 16
A Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, the eastern and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon, the eastern and central seaboards of Visayas, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao due Uwan, according to PAGASA on Sunday. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
