Uwan shuts down Bicol, Virac, Masbate airports
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Sunday said several airports that include Virac Airport and Bicol International Airport, have suspended operations due to the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan.
In its advisory issued at 11 a.m., the CAAP said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 is in effect in Virac, Catanduanes.
“Aerodrome operations are suspended for safety reasons. All airport personnel are on standby and monitoring for possible resumption of operations once weather conditions improve,” the CAAP said.
“No stranded passengers have been reported,” it added.
Meanwhile, the CAAP said Bicol International Airport in Daraga, Albay is under TCWS No. 3.
“Aerodrome operations remain suspended due to prevailing adverse weather conditions,” the CAAP said.
“A total of four stranded passengers have been accommodated since 08 November 2025 (Saturday),” it added.
In Naga Airport in Pili, Camarines Sur where TCWS No. 4 is in effect, the CAAP said security personnel are on red alert status.
“Heavy rains and strong winds are being experienced within the airport vicinity. All security personnel are on red alert status,” the agency said.
“The airport has accommodated one family of evacuees at the [Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station], one family together with nine personnel from the 9th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, who are providing logistical and security support from PDRRMC, at the Passenger Terminal Building (Arrival Area),” it added.
Meanwhile in Masbate Airport, the CAAP said no flight operations are scheduled on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions.
Airport facilities and equipment remain secure and no damages have been reported so far despite the moderate to heavy rains and gusty winds in Masbate City, according to CAAP. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
