Thief breaks into pumping station in Cainta amid Super Typhoon Uwan

A thief broke into a pumping station in Cainta, Rizal amid the threat of Super Typhoon Uwan.

According to Mav Gonzales’ report in “24 Oras” on Sunday, the thief cut the steel matting and electric wires, removed all the copper wires, and took all the batteries from the generator.

Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto had an installer check the facility to make sure it will work properly in time for the typhoon. The mayor also ordered putting up 24-hour security in all pump stations, the report added.

Further, Nieto also offered a P300,000 reward from his own pocket to anyone who can point to the suspect.

On the other hand, forced evacuation was enforced in low-lying areas in Cainta, including Barangay Santo Domingo. But there are still residents who refused to go to the evacuation center.

Classes are suspended in all levels in the town as well as government work in the locality.

Meanwhile, Marikina City is also preparing for the super typhoon in case of flooding. For instance, rescue boats are already on standby in Barangay Santo Niño.

Tents are also set up inside the H. Bautista Elementary School, which can accommodate more than 3,000 evacuees. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
