PNP: Uwan damages 26 police stations, HQs
A total of 26 police stations and headquarters were damaged nationwide as Super Typhoon Uwan lashed the country over the weekend, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Monday.
In a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the affected PNP facilities are located in Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
“Sa hanay ng ating kapulisan, may naitalang pinsala na 24 police stations sa mga rehiyon ng Region 2, 5, 6, at Region 8. Gayundin sa dalawang headquarters sa Region 5,” he said.
(Among our personnel, there was recorded damage to 24 police stations in Regions 2, 5, 6, and 8, as well as two headquarters in Region 5.)
Tuaño added that two police vehicles were also damaged during the onslaught of Uwan.
PNP officials said 27 uniformed personnel and one non-uniformed staff member were affected by the typhoon, with some of their personal properties damaged due to the severe weather.
In a separate statement, the PNP said it has activated disaster response measures following Uwan’s impact.
“All our units are on alert and have activated their Risk Reduction Management Task Groups to respond immediately to hazards brought by Typhoon Uwan,” PNP acting chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.
“We are also prioritizing the safety of our personnel and their families to ensure uninterrupted service to the public,” he added.
According to the PNP, no looting or other crimes related to the typhoon’s impact have been reported in the affected areas so far.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
