3 dead in Nueva Vizcaya due to Uwan — OCD Region 2
Three people were killed in Nueva Vizcaya as Super Typhoon Uwan ravaged northern Luzon on Sunday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 2 said Monday.
In an interview with Super Radyo DZBB, OCD Region 2 spokesperson Alvin Ayson confirmed that the two fatalities were five-year-old twins in Kayapa town.
“Yung dalawang nasawi ay confirmed. Ito ay kambal na natabunan ng lupa,” Ayson said.
(The two fatalities were confirmed as twins who were buried in a landslide.)
Along with the two casualties were three family members who were injured and were rushed at the Lt. Tidang Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, the identity of the third fatality is being verified, Ayson said.
“Suspetya namin, ito ay caused ng landslide also kasi mostly ng incidents natin sa (Nueva) Vizcaya ay landslide. However, we are still confirming with NDRRMO,” Ayson said.
(We suspect that this third fatality is also due to a landslide because most of the recorded incidents in Nueva Vizcaya are landslides. However, we are still confirming with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.)
About 6,000 families, or 18,116 individuals, from 342 barangays were preemptively evacuated in Cagayan Valley, according to the Ayson.
Citing data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 2, Ayson said 14,104 families, or 43,419 individuals, were affected by Uwan in the region.
Currently, 10,200 families, or more than 31,100 individuals, are taking shelter in evacuation centers, he said.
Three national roads and eight local roads are currently impassable, while 23 overflow bridges are inaccessible.
Meanwhile, the Cagayan River has reached a depth of 9.9 meters at the Buntun Bridge in Tuguegarao City, exceeding its critical level of 9 meters.
