Vessel slams into seawall at island off Lapu-Lapu City
A landing craft tank (LCT) rammed into the seawall of Caubian Island, off Lapu-Lapu City, dawn on November 10, 2025, as Super Typhoon Uwan barreled through Southern Luzon.
Barangay Councilwoman Kathy Meyers was woken up at 3 a.m. by her nephew on a vessel at the seawall near their house.
Upon inspection, Meyers found out that the vessel is "LCT Golden Star 7" that first ran aground in 2021 at the onslaught of Super Typhoon Odette between Nasingin Island and Pandanon Island in the waters of Bohol, and stayed there since.
As Super Typhoon Uwan packed strong winds and triggered storm surges, the vessel drifted to Caubian Island.
Meyers said it was a good thing the vessel did not crush the motorbancas moored for safety at Sitio Kasadpan at that time. Neither did it ram into fish pens operated by fishermen in the island.
No damage were found on corals in Sitio Kasadpan, Meyers added.
However, the seawall sustained significant damage due to the impact of the vessel.
The Cebu Coast Guard has checked the area, Meyers also said. No oil spill was observed, according to its spokesperson, she said further.
But Meyers is apprehensive about the presence of the vessel in their area. She cited that strong winds and huge waves have prevailed, and with the absence of a skipper, or any crew member, no one oversees the vessel. —GMA Regional TV
