DOTr: Catanduanes seaports, airport damaged by Uwan
The seaports in Catanduanes sustained extensive damage while an airport had minor damage after the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Uwan, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Tuesday.
“Ang matinding may tama sa ating paliparan o pantalan, dito sa may Virac, Catanduanes,” DOTr acting secretary Giovanni Lopez told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview.
(There is severe damage to our airport or port here in Virac, Catanduanes.)
“May mga pantalan po tayo, talagang sabihin natin, extensive damage po, pero pagdating sa ating paliparan, minor damage lang ang mga nangyari sa ating pasilidad,” he added.
(We have seaports with extensive damage, but when it comes to our airport, there was only minor damage to our facilities.)
After Uwan’s onslaught, Lopez said that all airports and seaports have returned to normal operations. The suspension on the trips of public utility vehicles (PUV) has also been lifted.
“Ang ibig sabihin dito, pagdating sa ating mga pantalan, lifted na po ang no-sail policy. Lifted na rin ang ating NOTAM pagdating sa ating paliparan. Puwede na bumiyahe,” he said.
(This means when it comes to our seaports, the no-sail policy has been lifted. Our NOTAM [Notice to Airmen] has also been lifted when it comes to our airport. We can have trips again.)
“Pati rin ang PUV trips, we lifted the suspension of PUV trips na rin sa mga naapekto ng Bagyong Uwan,” he added.
(We also lifted the suspension of PUV trips for those affected by Typhoon Uwan.)

Catanduanes was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 on Nov. 9 when Uwan, then a super typhoon, was on track to hit the Luzon landmass.
Virac had floods and storm surges due to Uwan's torrential rains and winds.
Uwan exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Tuesday. —KG, GMA Integrated News
