Caloocan police captain robs Bulacan store, killed in shootout with cops

A police captain assigned to Caloocan City died in a shootout with fellow cops after he robbed a convenience store in Marilao, Bulacan on Monday evening.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report in “24 Oras” on Tuesday, security cameras caught the suspect entering a convenience store wearing a red hoodie jacket. From the counter, he walked with the cashier into a room containing the store’s vault. He forced the employee to open it and took all the money before escaping.

“Pagpasok niya nag-pretend siyang may bibilin then pumasok siya sa loob ng counter, doon na siya nag-deklara ng hold up,” said PRO-3 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio Peñones.

(When he entered, he pretended he was going to buy something, then he went behind the counter, and that's when he declared the hold-up.)

The store staff immediately reported the robbery to the Marilao Police which conducted a pursuit operation, leading to the suspect’s discovery.

Policemen caught up with the suspect, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

“Tinry na pahintuin sya nung ating mga kapulisan pero hindi sya huminto, bagkus siya ay nagpaputok. Pinaputukan mobile natin which prompted our personnel to return fire,” said Peñones.

(Our police officers tried to stop him, but he refused; instead, he opened fire. He shot at our mobile [car], which prompted our personnel to return fire.)

The wounded suspect was brought to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said they recovered P20,000 in cash from the suspect as well as the hoodie he wore. The suspect was found to be the chief of investigation of the Caloocan Police in North Caloocan.

“Ako mismo nanlumo rin ako nung nalaman ko na yung suspect pala natin ay hindi lang aktibong pulis, opisyal pa ng pulis,” said Peñones.

(I myself was disheartened after I found out that our suspect was not just an active police officer, but also a police official.)
