Dilasag, Aurora residents seek to rebuild homes, lives after Uwan

Thousands of homes in the coastal communities of Aurora were not spared by Super Typhoon Uwan as residents appeal for help to rebuild their lives.

According to Ian Cruz’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” many locals were left without homes in Barangay Diniog in Dilasag, Aurora after strong winds and powerful waves ravaged the coast.

The townsfolk were safe after they were preemptively evacuated. However, they found their properties heavily damaged upon their return.

Due to the extent of the destruction, Dilasag is considered among the towns most devastated by Uwan, which peaked as a super typhoon as it neared the Philippines.

Based on the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s initial report, 148 houses were totally damaged, while 1,110 were partially damaged.

In Barangay Masagan, fishing boats, sand, and debris ended up on the road after these were carried by wind and water.

At the neighboring town of Casiguran, residents appealed for help in rebuilding their damaged homes rendered uninhabitable by the storm.

Nearly 180 houses were totally damaged in the town, with more than 500 partially damaged.

Some students in Casiguran National High School had to be transferred to classrooms as many were damaged by the storm.

The school's covered court was also not spared, losing its roof in the typhoon.
