Marcos visits Tino-hit communities in Negros Occidental
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday visited families and communities affected by Typhoon Tino in Negros Occidental.
Floods submerged several classrooms at Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School (JPMGS NHS) in Barangay 1 in the Moises Padilla municipality.
Students and teachers resorted to alternative delivery modes to ensure continuous learning for students since the classrooms were severely damaged.
The President visited the school, which has 1,257 enrolled students this school year.
From the school, the PCO said the President proceeded to Barangay Poblacion to visit affected residents and assess several damaged houses.
Marcos also visited the evacuees at La Castellana Elementary School (LCES) in La Castellana municipality to check on their situation, according to the PCO.
Citing the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Palace said 307 families consisting of 1,117 individuals are currently taking shelter at the LCES.
The PCO said the President also inspected the Bungahin Steel Bridge in Barangay Robles in La Castellana.
The bridge collapsed during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, cutting access between upland barangays and the town proper.
Marcos also conducted a situation briefing at the La Castellana Municipal Hall with Cabinet members from the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and local officials.
The PCO said that Marcos has allocated P95 million in aid to Negros Occidental towns.
Of the amount, 50 million was allocated for the province of Negros Occidental; La Carlota City and the municipalities of La Castellana and Moises Padilla will get P10 million each; and Binalbagan, Isabela, and Hinigaran will receive P5 million each, the Palace said. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
