Over P16M worth of Shabu seized in Leyte

Authorities seized over 2 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride shabu worth P16 million believed to be intended to be distributed in Cebu were seized in a buy-bust operation in Leyte.

According to PDEA, the operation was conducted on Friday in Barangay Guindapunan, Palo, Leyte .

"Confiscated during the operation were twenty-one (21) packs of suspected shabu weighing around 2.4 kilograms with an estimated average market value of P16,320,000, buy-bust money, two (2) digital weighing scales, two (2) cellular phones, and other non-drug evidence," PDEA said in a statement. 

According to PDEA, 2 suspects were nabbed during the operation. 

"PDEA 7 Regional Director Joel B. Plaza identified the arrested suspects as alias Ana (subject of the operation), 23, and her live-in partner and cohort, alias Buding, 34. Both are fruit vendors and residents of Barangay Poblacion 6, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte," PDEA said. 

The pieces of drug evidence have been submitted to the PDEA 8 Office Laboratory for chemical analysis and proper disposition while the suspects have been detained at the PDEA 8 detention facility.

Sale of dangerous drugs, regardless of quantity and quality, carries with it the maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 to P10 million.  —VAL, GMA Integrated News
